Economic Development
Chair – Douglas Ball, Development Services, Inc.
Work through the Chamber/Town partnership to discover and enact ways to make Garner even more attractive to businesses and to spur economic growth and prosperity. This committee works closely with the Town on economic development initiatives.
Education
Chair – Ron Smith, S&A Cherokee
The education committee is dedicated to facilitating the ongoing relationship between the business and education communities. The issue of workforce development is critical. Through the education committee, the Chamber works to build relationships between local businesses, the education system and elected officials.
The Garner Chamber has become known throughout the county for its support of the local schools.
Expo
Chair – David Beeler, Edward Jones
Through the annual business expo, the Chamber helps businesses succeed by providing a venue for them to showcase their products and services to the community. Building on the success of the Expo 2008, attended by more than 1200, the 2009 Expo has already been scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2009.
Golf Tournament
Chair – Carol Sims, Fonville Morisey Realty
With more than 25 years of golf tournament experience, the Chamber looks to make the 2009 golf outing bigger and better than ever. Hundreds participate in the tournament and on-site Business After Hours and Awards Ceremony. Thursday, May 14 is the date for the 2009 golf outing.
Government Affairs
Chair – David Hagwood, Garner Carpet
Help guide the interaction of the business community with local government on issues of critical importance to Garner businesses. This committee works to inform the Chamber membership and board of proposed state and local legislation, and of issues affecting local businesses.
Membership Recruitment
Chair – Julie Clark, Crescent State Bank
Membership Recruitment works to attract and recruit new member investors in order to make the Garner Chamber of Commerce a more powerful and effective organization. The committee promotes member value and member benefits to demonstrate the value of Chamber membership to prospective members.
Membership Retention/Ambassadors
Chairs – Linda McLamb, First Citizens Bank and Ralph Smith, Cottman Transmission
Membership Retention works to retain existing members to make the Garner Chamber of Commerce a more powerful and effective organization. The retention committee members are known as the Chamber Ambassadors. They are an energetic group of people who work to promote member value and member benefits to demonstrate the value of Chamber membership to existing members.
Public Relations
Chair – Cassondra Liles, New Castle Realty
Great things are happening with the Garner Chamber of Commerce. The Public Relations Committee works to help present a positive image of the Chamber and Town to the membership, general business community and public.
Technology
Chair – Jay Strickland, WingSwept
This committee develops and supports the Chamber Website and computer/communication systems.
Reverse Raffle
Chair – Suzy Phillips, International Minute Press and Mary Lou Todd, Retired Town Manager
The Chamber's work is supported by the organization's fundraising efforts. Continuing the tradition of fun and success, the 2009 Reverse Raffle is scheduled for February 28.
Transportation
Chair – Doby Blackmon, Blackmon Engineering Services
Transportation is critical for Garner's growth and quality of life. The Chamber's transportation committee represents Garner's business community at the local and regional level, and keeps the Chamber board informed of transportation issues and project status.
