Nominations are being accepted for the 22nd annual James R. Stevens Service to Garner Award. The 2010 recognition event will celebrate 22 years of honoring individuals who have made notable contributions to the Town of Garner. The awards lunch will be held at Aversboro Road Baptist Church on Saturday, August 21 at 12 p.m.
The Service to Garner Award is presented to individuals in recognition of their contributions and service to the Town of Garner. The award was established in 1988 and named in honor of James R. Stevens, the award’s first recipient. Mr. Stevens served as an Alderman on the Town of Garner’s Board of Aldermen during the 1960s and 1980s. He was also active in numerous Garner civic organizations and Garner United Methodist Church.
Nominees should have made contributions to the town over a period of years. Previous winners have been elected officials, town officials, members of the clergy, civic leaders and others who have unselfishly given of their time, talents, money and energy.
A nomination form is attached. Also, nomination forms may be obtained from the Garner Chamber of Commerce, Garner Town Hall or from Tim Stevens, who can be reached at tim.stevens@earthlink.net. The deadline for submission of nominations to receive this award is July 30, 2010.
